It was one of those intense summer afternoons in Copperfield Springs, Arizona, when the sun seems to press down from every angle, and the air feels heavy with heat. At first glance, it seemed calm, but a closer look revealed that the Border Collie mix was lying in the backseat, breathing quickly and with her tongue out, unable to reach the bottle of water in the passenger seat.
