Made these several times now, and we never ever get sick of it!

Is there anything more comforting than the aroma of garlic and butter wafting through the air as it sizzles on the stove?

It takes me right back to childhood when my mom would whip up something similar on lazy Sunday afternoons.

Flatbread has a history that spans many cultures and continents. Today’s recipe, Garlic & Butter Flatbread, is my personal ode to those simpler times.

It’s the bread you want to make when you need a little self-care, a side dish for your homemade pastas, or when friends swing by unannounced – because let’s be real, who doesn’t smile at the sight of warm, fluffy bread on the table?

This flatbread is a chameleon on the dinner table; it pairs superbly with a variety of dishes.

Feel free to serve it alongside a vibrant Tuscan salad for a light complement or use it to scoop up hearty portions of your favorite stew.

And of course, it’s the best friend to a saucy spaghetti or a creamy Alfredo, ready to soak up every last drop of the deliciousness.

Garlic & Butter Flatbread
Servings: 4 servings

Made these several times now, and we never ever get sick of it!

Ingredients:

– 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
– 1 teaspoon baking powder
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 3/4 cup water
– 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
– 4 cloves garlic, minced
– Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
– Additional salt, to taste

Directions:

1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

2. Gradually add in the water, mixing until a soft dough forms.

3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for a minute or so until it’s smooth. Let the dough rest for about 15 minutes.

4. Divide the dough into four equal portions and roll each piece into a thin round (about 1/8 inch thick).

5. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Cook each flatbread for about 1-2 minutes on one side, or until you see bubbles forming, then flip and cook the other side for an additional minute. Stack the cooked flatbreads and wrap them in a clean towel to keep them warm.

6. In the same skillet, melt the butter and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant. Brush this garlic butter generously over each flatbread.

7. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and a pinch of salt to taste before serving.

Variations & Tips:

– Feeling adventurous? Add some grated Parmesan or Asiago cheese to the top of the flatbreads right after brushing them with garlic butter for a cheesy twist.

– Whole wheat flour can be substituted for all-purpose for a nuttier, heartier flavor.

– If you’re short on time, store-bought pizza dough can stand in for homemade dough in a pinch. Just roll it out thin and follow the cooking directions as usual.

– For a touch of heat, a sprinkle of red pepper flakes to the garlic butter can make a spicy version that’s sure to be a hit.

– Finally, these are best served immediately, but if you need to reheat, wrap them in foil and pop them in the oven at 350°F for about 5 minutes, or until heated through. Enjoy every last bite, folks!
