15 True Stories That Get Creepier the More You Dig In

I’m still left wondering who that stranger was who visited my children. There was a girl who was very much interested in me, but I wasn’t interested in her.

After school, I didn’t give her a second thought.

However, one summer when I returned home, I discovered she had moved into my family’s building, in the apartment across from ours (there are two apartments on each floor). I had never shared my address with her before this. I tried to be friendly and introduced myself to her family, and her mom mentioned that it was the girl’s idea to move there.

I can’t say for sure whether it was intentional or purely coincidence, but given that we live in a large city, it seems unlikely it was by chance.

At the age of 15, I was home alone when I distinctly heard a child laughing and running around on a hard surface throughout the house. I lived in a one-story home, and all the floors, including the kitchen, were carpeted.

One summer night during high school, I slept with my window open. Around 3 a.m., I was jarred awake by an incessant car horn blaring outside.

I was not fully awake and bewildered by the sound.

Suddenly, I heard a woman scream, “Somebody, please help me!”

This jolted me awake, and I dashed to my mom’s room to insist we call 911. She did so, and after a few minutes, officers arrived, searched the vicinity with flashlights, but didn’t find anyone, so they eventually left. The following day, we asked our neighbors if they had seen or heard anything, but no one had.

The memory still unnerves me.

While riding the Tube in London, I noticed a guy opposite me wearing an exceptionally bright and colorful t-shirt that caught my eye. Throughout the journey, I kept glancing at him.

After I got off at my stop, I headed up the escalator. To my astonishment, the same man passed me coming down the other escalator from street level.

There was no way he could have gotten there so quickly—I had just left him on the train.

It genuinely freaked me out. I had a dream about my husband and me having three children. It started off sweet and joyful until the children began to vanish, almost as if erasing them one by one.

I woke up feeling deeply disturbed.

The following week, we learned I was pregnant with triplets. Sadly, one didn’t survive, another became unviable, and the third had to be removed due to being dangerously undersized.

This was the eeriest experience of my life. When I was 15, my parents went away for the weekend.

I fell asleep, only to be awakened by strange voices and noises.

I went downstairs to find the TV on static at full volume, a radio tuned into a late-night talk show, the oven switched on, and the fridge door wide open. Despite all doors and windows being securely locked, I still can’t explain any of it. I spent the rest of the night wide awake.

As a child, around the age of seven, I lived in a house where the previous owner had passed away.

My parents scoffed at the idea of the supernatural, believing nothing would happen. My room was the coldest in the house, and one night, I woke up to see a pale, thin man staring at me from the foot of my bed.

I couldn’t scream; I was so startled that I must have fainted. The next thing I knew, it was morning.

I never divulged this to my parents for fear of looking insane, but his face remains etched in my memory.

Years ago, there was an old abandoned house at the edge of a plant nursery. I had heard from others that it was a spot where parties took place. So one night, a friend, his girlfriend, and I decided to explore it, guided solely by moonlight.

Upon discovering the rundown house hidden behind trees, we made our way closer.

Suddenly, I heard a single frog croaking. As we approached, the chorus of frogs grew louder until it became deafening, as if warning us against moving closer to that darkened home.

Heeding their warning, we turned back with our snacks to the safety of home. My boyfriend recounted that as a child, he would hear whispers and conversations in one of the rooms at night.

Out of curiosity, he entered the room, only to be tapped on the back so forcefully that he lost consciousness.

When he regained his senses, he noticed a large mark on his back, resembling a scratch from some big claws, and it remains there today—a rather unsettling experience. During a sleepover at a friend’s house when I was around eight or nine, I remembered his ranch-style home had a pool and a large surrounding patio. The living room had sliding glass doors that opened directly to the patio.

We were watching movies when his parents announced it was time for bed.

As we exited the room, my friend turned off the lights. After the reflections faded from the glass doors, we spotted a man standing on the patio watching us across the pool.

In a panic, we screamed and rushed to find his parents. However, by the time they returned to check, the man had vanished.

I have no idea how long he had silently watched us, but I was haunted by nightmares about it for a long time afterward.

One night, I woke up at 3 a.m. feeling thirsty. I heard my son’s voice calling from his room, “Mom, can you turn off the light?” Without a second thought, I went ahead and switched it off.

As I climbed back into bed, I suddenly realized—my son was away camping.

I rushed to his room and froze in shock to see it empty. I was completely convinced I had heard his voice, or at least someone speaking in a sleepy manner.

When I mentioned it to my husband, he dismissed it as likely just my imagination, but I swear the voice sounded real. That experience still sends chills down my spine.
